Issued on 29 November 2023 to coincide with the UAE's 52nd National Day, the new AED 500 note is printed on polymer substrate — a first for this denomination — and forms part of the UAE's third banknote series. Its obverse imagery references the Terra Sustainability Pavilion, embodying the environmental legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, while the reverse presents the Museum of the Future as a symbol of forward-looking innovation. The note won the 'Best New Banknote' award at the High Security Printing conference for EMEA in 2024.
