500 Bolívares

The 500 Bolívares banknote from Venezuela's Banco Central de Venezuela commemorates the bicentennial of the naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo (1823-2023). The note was introduced in August 2024 and reissued in June 2025 with new signatures (Guerra/Pérez) and date 12.06.2025.

The front showcases three distinct portraits of Simón Bolívar representing different eras of his historic leadership and influence across South America, rendered in orange, brown, and green color scheme. This multi-portrait design emphasizes Bolívar's enduring significance.

The reverse displays the Puente Rafael Urdaneta, a major cable-stayed bridge at the Tablazo Strait outlet of Lake Maracaibo, combined with detailed imagery of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo—the pivotal July 24, 1823 naval engagement that secured independence from Spanish colonial rule. The note includes Simón Bolívar watermark and advanced security features including optically variable ink on the denomination numeral.
