1.000 Francs CFA

The 1,000 Francs CFA banknote circulating in Mali is issued by BCEAO as the central currency of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. Mali readopted the CFA franc in 1984 at an exchange rate of 1 CFA franc = 2 Malian francs. The red-colored banknote measures 125 mm by 66 mm and represents the modern design standards of the BCEAO.

The obverse side showcases health and education themes through the depiction of a pharmaceutical caduceus (representing medicine), a medical cross, medical books, a writing slate, and a globe symbolizing knowledge and global education. These elements represent the health and education sectors' importance in West African development and reflect BCEAO's commitment to integrating development aspirations into currency design.

The reverse side features a naturalistic scene of dromedaries in their native Sahelian environment, highlighting the region's distinctive fauna and landscape. This design reflects the themes of WAEMU unity that emphasize the openness and solidarity of member states and their shared natural and cultural heritage. The note's design standards were established in the 2004 BCEAO series update and continue to serve Mali's monetary needs within the currency union.
