20 Kwacha

The 20 Kwacha note was released as part of the Bank of Zambia's Heritage Series launched in 2024. Featuring mauve and blue coloring, this denomination represents a middle-value note in the six-banknote family. The obverse displays a flower as a registration device, a tractor tilling a field representing Zambia's agricultural sector, a fish eagle in flight symbolizing the nation's fauna, a map of Zambia rendered in bronze-to-green OVI, and the Zambian coat of arms.

The reverse showcases a water buffalo, representing Zambia's rich wildlife heritage, and a candelabra tree. The series design philosophy employs single background colors for each note, with the central portion of both sides printed in a contrasting color reflecting the main color of the next higher denomination, creating a unified aesthetic progression through the series.

Agriculture plays a fundamental role in Zambia's economy, employing over half the population and contributing significantly to GDP. The tractor imagery on the 20 Kwacha note acknowledges the importance of mechanized farming in boosting agricultural productivity and rural development. The water buffalo depicted on the reverse is native to Zambia's game management areas and national parks, representing the country's commitment to wildlife conservation alongside economic development.
