The 5 Kwacha note, printed in purple, sits at the second-lowest tier of Zambia's post-2013 rebase currency family. The 2022 dated edition continues the established design canon that pairs Zambia's national bird — the African fish eagle — with native tree species and wildlife on the reverse. The lion depicted on the reverse is a symbol of strength recognized throughout sub-Saharan Africa, while the cassava motif acknowledges the staple crop's central role in Zambian food security. The note measures 140 x 70 mm and was printed by De La Rue.
