20 ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold)

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe released the 20 ZiG note on April 5, 2024, as the second active denomination of the newly launched gold-backed currency. The obverse prominently displays the Great Zimbabwe ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site representing the nation's pre-colonial architectural achievement and the seat of the Medieval Kingdom of Zimbabwe. The reverse showcases the majestic Victoria Falls, one of the world's most spectacular natural wonders located on the Zambezi River between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The banknote's enhanced security features include a dynamic holographic security strip running alongside the central motif, providing sophisticated anti-counterfeiting protection. The serial number appears in striking red font, contributing both to visual appeal and security. The design is further secured by a detailed Zimbabwe Bird watermark that is aligned precisely across both obverse and reverse surfaces.

Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and forms the world's largest curtain of falling water. Its placement on the 20 ZiG banknote alongside the Great Zimbabwe ruins reflects Zimbabwe's pride in both its ancient civilizational heritage and its extraordinary natural landscape. The 20 ZiG and 10 ZiG were the only ZiG denominations in active circulation during 2024.
